Wild by Design: Planting Inspired by Nature with Noel Kingsbury

Thursday 30th July

Wild by Design: Planting Inspired by Nature

Join internationally renowned planting designer and author Noel Kingsbury for an inspiring exploration of wild, naturalistic planting - one of the most influential movements in contemporary garden design. Drawing on decades of research, writing, and collaboration with leading figures such as Piet Oudolf, Noel breaks down how these ideas can be applied in real gardens, large or small.

This talk uncovers how naturalistic planting offers practical solutions to low-maintenance gardening, sustainability and climate resilience. Noel will focus on what this means for your own garden—how to choose the right plants, work with your soil and conditions and create plant combinations that thrive with less intervention. He will share simple, achievable techniques for building structure, extending seasonal interest and encouraging biodiversity without increasing workload.

Noel will share insights from his extensive and very influential body of work, including his books on planting design and ecology, alongside his continuing research into plant growth habits. Expect to leave with a deeper understanding of how to design plantings that are dynamic, ecologically rich and beautiful throughout the seasons.

Time: 3 p.m.

Venue: Shankill Castle, Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny

Admission: €22
